News Brief

  • Afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms expected across inland Central Florida
  • Coastal areas expected to stay mostly drier due to onshore flow
  • Temperatures climbing into the mid-80s to low 90s
  • High risk for dangerous rip currents at Atlantic beaches
  • Beachgoers urged to stay out of the surf if red flags are flying

Central Florida residents can expect a warm and active weather day Saturday, with inland communities seeing the highest chances for afternoon and evening thunderstorms while coastal areas remain comparatively drier.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, onshore winds will help keep much of the Atlantic coastline dry for much of the day, but interior areas could see scattered showers and thunderstorms develop later this afternoon and continue into the evening.

Forecasters say some storms may bring frequent lightning, gusty winds over 40 mph, and small hail, particularly across inland sections.

High temperatures are expected to reach the upper 80s to low 90s, with Orlando forecast near 90 degrees, Kissimmee around the same, and inland areas such as Leesburg potentially climbing into the lower 90s. Humidity will make conditions feel even warmer, with heat index values approaching the upper 90s in some locations.

Meanwhile, beachgoers are being strongly warned about dangerous surf conditions.

HIGH risk for rip currents remains in effect for all Atlantic beaches across Volusia, Brevard, Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin, and surrounding Treasure Coast areas, where numerous strong and potentially life-threatening rip currents are expected. Surf heights of 3 to 4 feet are possible.

Officials urge swimmers to stay out of the water, obey lifeguard instructions, and never attempt to swim directly against a rip current. If caught in one, remain calm, float, and swim parallel to shore to escape.

Residents are encouraged to monitor changing conditions throughout the day.
