Mesa Police Make 72 DUI Arrests During Memorial Day Weekend Enforcement Campaign

MESA, Ariz. — The Mesa Police Department has concluded its participation in the Governor's Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) Memorial Day Weekend DUI Task Force, resulting in dozens of impaired driving arrests and hundreds of traffic enforcement contacts across the Valley.
The annual enforcement effort ran from Friday, May 22 through Monday, May 25, 2026, and focused on removing impaired drivers from Arizona roadways while increasing public safety during one of the busiest travel weekends of the year.
According to Mesa Police, officers conducted 458 traffic stops during the four-day operation and arrested 72 drivers for DUI-related offenses.
Of those arrests:
- 14 were Aggravated DUI arrests
- 58 were Misdemeanor DUI arrests
- 48 involved DUI-drug related offenses
- 5 were Extreme DUI arrests
- 2 involved drivers under the age of 21
Police reported the average blood alcohol concentration (BAC) among arrested impaired drivers was .124, significantly above Arizona's legal limit of .08.
In addition to impaired driving enforcement, officers conducted numerous traffic safety initiatives throughout the operation.

Mesa Police said the operation is part of an ongoing effort to reduce impaired driving crashes, injuries, and fatalities throughout the community.
Officials thanked residents who made responsible decisions during the holiday weekend and encouraged motorists to continue planning ahead before consuming alcohol or drugs.
The department also reminded drivers to use rideshare services, public transportation, or designated sober drivers and to report suspected impaired drivers to law enforcement when it is safe to do so.
