BROOKLYN, NY – A popular smartphone accessory has turned into a deadly hazard, prompting the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Casely to reannounce a massive recall of nearly 430,000 wireless power banks. The alert comes following a heartbreaking report of a fatality and a terrifying mid-air explosion on a commercial flight.

While these power banks were originally recalled in April 2025, the danger has only escalated. Since the initial warning, 28 additional reports of overheating, expanding, and exploding batteries have surfaced—bringing the total to nearly 80 incidents.

The reannouncement highlights two catastrophic recent events that underscore the extreme volatility of the Model E33A power banks:

  • The Fatality: In August 2024, a 75-year-old New Jersey woman was using the power bank on her lap when it suddenly exploded. She suffered agonizing second and third-degree burns and later passed away from complications related to her injuries.
  • The Airplane Explosion: In February 2026, a 47-year-old woman was charging her phone during a flight when the device ignited and exploded, causing first-degree burns and causing panic on board.
