Camp Pendleton Raises Security Level to FPCON Bravo+, Suspends Trusted Traveler Program
CAMP PENDLETON, California — Officials at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton have raised the installation’s security posture to Force Protection Condition (FPCON) Bravo+, according to a base advisory released Tuesday.
The advisory states that effective immediately, the base is operating under heightened security measures and the Trusted Traveler Program has been suspended until further notice.
The Trusted Traveler Program normally allows Department of Defense identification holders to escort guests onto the base without each guest needing their own separate authorization. With the program now suspended, all visitors may be required to present their own identification and authorization to access the installation.

What FPCON Bravo+ Means
The Force Protection Condition (FPCON) system is used across U.S. military installations to indicate the level of security and protective measures in place based on potential threats.
FPCON Bravo typically indicates an increased or more predictable threat of terrorist activity, prompting additional security precautions. The Bravo+ designation suggests further enhanced protective measures beyond the standard Bravo level.
Officials did not specify the reason for the change but noted the measures are precautionary and designed to protect personnel, families, and base facilities.
What Visitors May Experience
Personnel and visitors entering Camp Pendleton may notice:
- Increased vehicle inspections at entry gates
- Additional identification checks
- Longer wait times for base access
- Increased presence of military police and security personnel
Those planning to enter the base are encouraged to allow extra travel time and follow instructions from security personnel at all gates.
Located along the Southern California coastline between Los Angeles and San Diego, Camp Pendleton is one of the largest Marine Corps bases in the United States and serves as a major training and operational hub for Marine forces.
Officials have not announced when the elevated security posture will be lifted.
