Teen Killed in Early Morning I-75 Crash in Sumter County

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — A 19-year-old man from Tampa was killed early Sunday morning following a crash involving a semi-truck along Interstate 75 in Sumter County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say the crash occurred at approximately 5:18 a.m. on February 1, 2026, along southbound I-75 near Milepost 321.

Investigators report that the teen was driving a Honda Accord southbound when he struck a semi-truck tractor that was stopped on the emergency shoulder. The semi, which was not pulling a trailer, had reportedly pulled over due to mechanical issues.

For reasons that remain under investigation, the Honda entered the shoulder and collided with the stopped semi-truck.

The driver of the Honda suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi, a 35-year-old man from Rhode Island, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
