iSkyNews.com (ISN) – Published February 11th, 2026LAKELAND, Fla. — A 36-year-old man from Venezuela was arrested Tuesday in connection with a home burglary investigation that began last month in Lakeland, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies arrested Carlos Silva on February 10 following a weeks-long investigation into a stolen package reported on January 26. The victim told deputies that her Ring doorbell camera recorded a man wearing a hoodie and baseball cap approaching her front door while carrying an empty DoorDash delivery bag. The suspect turned his back to the camera to conceal his face, removed a large package from the doorstep, and left the area in a dark-colored SUV. The package was valued at approximately $70.

The following day, the victim contacted deputies again after finding the discarded shipping box near her trash bins. The contents of the package were missing. Investigators collected fingerprints from the box, which matched Silva. He also matched the general physical description captured on the doorbell footage.
Detectives later confirmed through investigative resources that Silva’s vehicle was in the area at the time of the theft. During the investigation, deputies contacted Silva’s brother, who stated that Carlos works for DoorDash.
A warrant was obtained for Silva’s arrest. On February 10, deputies located his vehicle at Lake Miriam Plaza in Lakeland. He was positively identified and taken into custody without incident.
After the arrest, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement was notified. Authorities stated that Silva had been in the country from Venezuela with a pending immigration application. Due to the criminal charges, his immigration status was revoked and ICE issued an Immigration Detainer.
Silva is charged with unarmed burglary, a second-degree felony, and grand theft from a dwelling, a third-degree felony. Both charges were enhanced by one degree due to his illegal status under Florida law.
