Millions at Risk as Tornado‑Producing Storms Threaten Florida and Georgia

Severe Storms Expected Sunday Across North Florida and South Georgia, SPC Warns

By Staff Reporter iSkyNews.com – February 14, 2026

FLORIDA — The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center (SPC) is highlighting an elevated threat for severe thunderstorms on Sunday, placing parts of northern Florida and southern Georgia under a Slight Risk for severe weather.

The Day 2 Convective Outlook, issued late Saturday morning, warns that storms developing Sunday afternoon and evening could produce damaging wind gusts and a couple of tornadoes, with the SPC noting the potential for a strong tornado or two.

Millions in the Risk Zones

According to the National Weather Service SPC:

Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5)

  • Area: 36,586 sq. mi.
  • Population: 3,607,941
  • Major cities: Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Gainesville, Ocala, Valdosta

Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5)

  • Area: 92,120 sq. mi.
  • Population: 13,531,515
  • Major cities: New Orleans, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Orlando, Montgomery

The tornado outlook mirrors these zones, with a 5% tornado risk across the Slight Risk area and a 2% tornado risk extending into central Florida and parts of the Gulf Coast.

Cold Front to Trigger Stronger Storms in East Central Florida

Forecasters say a cold front will sweep southeast across the state Sunday evening, pushing a band of showers and thunderstorms into east central Florida. Some storms may become strong to marginally severe, capable of producing:

  • 45–60 mph wind gusts
  • Deadly lightning
  • Locally heavy rainfall
  • A tornado or two cannot be ruled out

Residents are urged to stay alert as conditions evolve.

“Remember to have more than one way to receive a warning,” meteorologists emphasized.
