Brush Fire Stops Feet from Poinciana Homes; Quick Response Prevents Disaster

POINCIANA, FL — Residents in the 1600 block of Minnow Lane faced a terrifying afternoon Friday as an out-of-control brush fire erupted just feet from their backyards. The blaze, which began around 3:00 PM, sent plumes of thick smoke into the air, visible for miles across the Poinciana area.
The Polk County Fire Rescue and Polk County Sheriff’s Office launched a massive, coordinated response to protect the neighborhood. The deployment included multiple engines, two specialized brush trucks, a tower truck, and a battalion chief.
For those living on Minnow Lane, the danger was personal. One nearby neighbor described the moment the realization hit:
"I first heard the sirens, then I could smell it. When I stepped outside, I couldn't believe how close the smoke was."
The intensity of the heat was evident on the scene, where at least one large tree was found scorched from the ground halfway up its trunk. Aerial footage from iSky1 showed the blackened, smoldering earth stopping abruptly just a short distance from residential structures.
Firefighters worked aggressively to establish a perimeter, successfully fully extinguishing the flames and eliminating lingering hot spots by 5:00 PM. No injuries were reported, and no homes were damaged thanks to the rapid intervention of the first responders.
"This could have been much worse," one reporter noted while surveying the smoldering landscape. "It was truly a matter of feet."
