Woman Killed in Fiery Multi-Vehicle Crash on US-301 in Hillsborough County
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — One woman was killed early Friday morning in a violent, multi-vehicle crash that shut down a stretch of US-301 in Hillsborough County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 12:30 a.m. on January 24, 2026, north of Jackson Road.
Investigators say a Chevrolet Camaro, driven by a 22-year-old woman from Brandon, was traveling southbound on US-301 when it crossed the centerline for unknown reasons and collided nearly head-on with a GMC Terrain traveling northbound. The GMC was driven by a 64-year-old man from East Meadow, New York.
The force of the impact caused both vehicles to rotate, with the Camaro coming to rest in the northbound lanes and the GMC ending up on the roadway shoulder. Moments later, a third vehicle — a Toyota Camry driven by a 31-year-old man from Ruskin — also traveling northbound, struck the Camaro following the initial collision.
After the crash, the GMC Terrain caught fire. Responding Hillsborough County deputies were able to pull the driver from the burning vehicle. Tragically, a 61-year-old female passenger, identified as the driver’s spouse, could not be removed in time and suffered fatal injuries at the scene.
The drivers of all three vehicles sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
The crash remains under investigation. Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has additional information to contact Florida Highway Patrol by dialing *347 (*FHP).
