Man Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash on State Road 44 in Volusia County

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A man from Valrico was killed Friday morning after losing control of his pickup truck on State Road 44 in Volusia County, according to investigators.

The crash happened around 9:08 a.m. on January 24, 2026, near the intersection of State Road 44 and Old Sawmill Road.

Authorities say the 31-year-old driver was traveling westbound in a 2016 Ford F-150 and was driving above the posted speed limit as he approached a left-hand curve. Investigators report the driver failed to navigate the curve, causing the truck to leave the roadway and enter the right shoulder.

The vehicle continued forward before striking several trees. The impact caused the truck to overturn, coming to rest on its roof. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials confirmed the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. No other vehicles were involved. Next of kin have been notified.

The incident remains under investigation, and authorities say additional details may be released as the investigation continues.
