Tampa Motorcyclist Killed, Passenger Seriously Injured in Fiery SR-50 Crash
Tampa, FL. - A Sunday morning ride ended in tragedy after a motorcycle and SUV collided at an intersection, killing a 57-year-old Tampa man and leaving his passenger seriously injured.
The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. Sunday, August 9, 2026, at the intersection of State Road 50 and County Road 581.
According to information released about the crash, a 45-year-old Brooksville man was driving a Jeep Commander eastbound on SR-50 while a Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling northbound on CR-581.
Investigators say the driver of the Jeep failed to stop at a red light and entered the intersection, colliding with the motorcycle.
The impact was severe enough that both the Jeep and motorcycle caught fire.
The 57-year-old Tampa man riding the motorcycle was rushed to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
A 63-year-old Tampa woman riding as a passenger on the motorcycle was seriously injured and transported to an area hospital for treatment. Her latest condition has not been released.
The 45-year-old driver of the Jeep was not injured.
The names of the motorcyclist and passenger have not been released in the information provided.
