SUV Plows Through Crowd as Tensions Erupt During Hamilton High School Walkout

CHANDLER, AZ — A teenage girl was arrested and investigators are working to identify a vehicle after an SUV plowed through a crowd during a planned student walkout near Hamilton High School on Friday afternoon, January 30, 2026.

According to the Chandler Police Department, officers proactively responded to the area after learning of the planned walkout. During the demonstration, a masked man who was armed with a handgun arrived on scene and had multiple interactions with student demonstrators. While police say the man did not commit any crimes, his presence escalated tensions among those gathered.

Officers contacted the man and asked if he would voluntarily leave the area to help de-escalate the situation. During one of those interactions, a teenage girl was seen throwing a water bottle at the man. The man later stated he wished to press charges. The teen was arrested on charges of assault and disorderly conduct. Police say the man ultimately agreed to leave the area under a police escort.

In a separate incident during the demonstration, a white SUV attempted to drive through an intersection that was temporarily blocked by a large group of people crossing the roadway. Police say the driver pushed through the crowd before fleeing the scene. A Chandler Police motorcycle officer, recognizing the potential danger, positioned their motorcycle in front of traffic to prevent additional vehicles from entering the intersection.

Detectives are now working to identify the SUV and are asking anyone who may have information to contact the Chandler Police Department’s non-emergency line at 480-782-4130.

Chandler Police emphasized that while they respect the right to peacefully assemble, reckless driving and throwing objects at individuals will not be tolerated, as these actions endanger both the public and officers.

The incident occurred outside Hamilton High School.
