Fatal Crash Involving Semi Shuts Down Deen Still Road in Davenport
DAVENPORT, Fla. — One person has died following a serious crash involving a tractor-trailer early Saturday morning at the intersection of Deen Still Road and Wheeler Road in Davenport.
According to authorities, a passenger vehicle collided with a semi-truck, causing the car to become trapped underneath the tractor-trailer. The driver of the car, an adult male, was pinned inside the vehicle.
Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Polk County Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene shortly before 5:47 a.m., classifying the incident as an expanded traffic collision. Fire crews worked for an extended period to gain access to the vehicle and reach the trapped driver. At one point, officials confirmed the vehicle remained in drive, complicating rescue efforts.
A medical helicopter was placed on standby as first responders worked the scene. However, at approximately 6:05 a.m., officials confirmed that the man trapped beneath the semi-truck was pronounced deceased.
All lanes of Deen Still Road remain blocked as investigators continue working the scene. Drivers are urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes while the crash investigation remains ongoing.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
