Hernando County Sheriff’s Patrol Car Overturns in Crash on US-41

HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. — A Hernando County Sheriff’s deputy was injured Saturday morning after a patrol car collided with another vehicle and overturned multiple times on US-41.

The crash happened around 10:40 a.m. on January 31, 2026, just north of Grand Entrada Boulevard, according to information provided to iSkyNews.com.

Investigators say the deputy, a 28-year-old with the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, was traveling southbound on US-41 while attempting to overtake a vehicle in order to conduct a traffic stop for speeding. At the same time, a 69-year-old man from Weeki Wachee, driving a Nissan Rogue, was traveling eastbound on Grand Entrada Boulevard.

As the Nissan crossed the intersection, it entered the path of the patrol car and was struck. The impact caused the sheriff’s patrol vehicle to overturn several times, while the Nissan rotated and came to rest in the travel lanes of US-41.

Both drivers suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. No additional vehicles were involved.

Traffic along US-41 was affected while emergency crews worked the scene and investigators documented evidence. Photos of the crash scene were provided to iSkyNews.com by the Florida Highway Patrol.

The incident remains under investigation. Stay with iSkyNews.com for updates as more information becomes available.
