16-Year-Old Arrested in Mesa Bass Pro Shooting; Second Suspect Hospitalized

MESA, Ariz. — Mesa Police have arrested a 16-year-old juvenile in connection with a shooting that occurred during what investigators say was a firearm sale gone wrong in the parking lot of Bass Pro near Dobson Road and Bass Pro Drive.

The shooting happened shortly after 1 p.m. on September 24, 2026.

According to Mesa Police, the juvenile suspect was booked on multiple charges, including armed robbery with use of a deadly weapon, trafficking stolen property, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, first-degree burglary, unlawful discharge of a firearm, endangerment, theft of a firearm and misconduct involving weapons.

The charges include:

Armed Robbery, Use of a Deadly Weapon — Class 2 felony

Trafficking Stolen Property, First Degree — Class 2 felony

Aggravated Robbery — Class 3 felony

Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon — two counts, Class 3 felonies

Burglary, First Degree, Possessing a Deadly Weapon — Class 3 felony

Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm — Class 6 felony

Endangerment — Class 6 felony

Theft of a Firearm — Class 6 felony

Misconduct Involving Weapons, Concealing a Weapon Under 21 — Class 3 misdemeanor

Police said a second suspect, an adult woman who suffered an apparent gunshot wound during the incident, remains hospitalized and continues to receive medical care.

Charges against the woman are pending.

No one else was reported injured by gunfire during the incident.

Police initially responded to the Bass Pro parking lot near Dobson Road and Bass Pro Drive shortly after 1 p.m. following reports of a shooting.

One person was transported to a local hospital with an apparent gunshot wound. Investigators later said the incident appeared to involve a firearm transaction that went wrong and was believed to be isolated.

Everyone believed to have been involved was detained, and police said there was no known threat to the surrounding community.

Mesa Police also reminded residents to use caution when buying or selling items to people they do not know, especially firearms or other high-value items.

The department says Mesa Police stations have designated areas in their parking lots where members of the public can conduct transactions in a safer environment.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information could be released as the case develops.
