Mesa Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal September Stabbing After Weeks-Long Investigation
Mesa, AZ — Mesa Police Detectives have arrested 29-year-old Robert Castillo in connection with a stabbing that occurred on September 29, 2025, which later resulted in the death of a male victim.
Just before 2:30 a.m. on the night of the attack, officers were dispatched to 56 S. Barkley after reports of a stabbing. When they arrived, officers found a man suffering from multiple stab wounds. Witnesses reported that the suspect fled the scene heading north on Barkley. He was initially described as a heavy-set Hispanic male in his mid-twenties, wearing a dark shirt, light shorts, and Puma-style shoes.
The victim was rushed to a local hospital, where he remained in critical condition for nearly a month. On October 26, 2025, the victim died from complications related to the stabbing.
Mesa Police launched an intensive investigation, serving several search warrants, interviewing multiple witnesses, and submitting physical evidence for forensic analysis. Over the course of the investigation, detectives identified Robert Castillo as the primary suspect and developed probable cause to place him under arrest.
On Monday, November 17, 2025, detectives executed a search warrant at Castillo’s residence. He was taken into custody without incident. Investigators say they located multiple pieces of evidence inside the home directly linking him to the fatal stabbing.
Castillo has been booked on charges of Second-Degree Murder and Aggravated Assault.
