Motorcyclist Seriously Injured After Being Struck by Distracted Driver in Lutz
LUTZ, Fla. (iSkyNews.com) — A motorcyclist was seriously injured late Saturday morning after being hit from behind by a distracted driver on U.S. 41 near Newberger Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
Investigators say the crash occurred around 11:05 a.m. on October 4, 2025, when a 46-year-old woman from New Port Richey was driving a Honda Accord southbound in the center lane of U.S. 41. Ahead of her was a 64-year-old Tampa man riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle in the same lane.
Troopers report that the woman became distracted while checking her GPS, failed to slow down, and collided with the rear of the motorcycle. The impact ejected the motorcyclist onto the roadway while the car came to a controlled stop shortly after the crash.
The rider sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash and reminds all drivers to stay focused behind the wheel— even a momentary distraction can have devastating consequences.
