MESA, AZ — What began as a routine Tuesday afternoon turned into a harrowing escape for several Mesa families as a fast-moving fire tore through their apartment complex, destroying three units and leaving residents shaken but safe.

The fire started just after 4:20 p.m. at 4837 E. Caballero Circle in a shed connected to Unit 103. In minutes, flames consumed the shed and spread to the home and two neighboring apartments. When firefighters arrived, the building was already in serious danger.

Mesa Fire & Medical crews, joined by Gilbert Fire, SRP, Mesa Police, and multiple ambulances, moved quickly to stop the blaze. Firefighters cut a hole in the roof to release heat and smoke, preventing the fire from spreading further.

iSkyNews.com reporters witnessed dramatic moments as residents ran from the complex carrying children, dogs, and whatever belongings they could grab. One man held his little boy close, visibly shaken as crews checked them for injuries. Neighbors rushed to provide water and comfort, turning the chaotic scene into one of support and solidarity.

By the time the fire was extinguished, three apartments were completely destroyed, displacing multiple families. The American Red Cross was dispatched to help with emergency shelter and recovery assistance.

Mesa Fire confirmed that — despite the destruction — there were no reported injuries. Utilities were shut off for safety, and investigators remain on scene to determine the cause of the blaze.

Though devastating, the incident highlighted the strength of Mesa’s community. Volunteers handed out water to both victims and exhausted firefighters, and first responders worked tirelessly to ensure everyone was safe.

Mesa Fire says the area will remain closed for several hours as crews complete their work and fire investigators finish their assessment.

Today’s swift response was a powerful reminder of the dedication and bravery of our firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and community volunteers. Their quick action prevented an already frightening day from becoming a tragedy.
