Scottsdale, AZ — As Labor Day weekend approaches, the Scottsdale Police Department is teaming up with state and local agencies to launch a multi-agency DUI enforcement campaign aimed at keeping Arizona roads safe.

In partnership with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, the Arizona Department of Transportation, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Scottsdale Police will conduct evening saturation patrols on Friday, August 29, and Saturday, August 30. These patrols are designed to identify and remove impaired drivers before they cause harm to themselves or others.

On Sunday, August 31, and Monday, September 1, Scottsdale officers will assist Mesa Police with traffic enforcement near the Salt River recreation areas—popular destinations where impaired driving risks tend to spike.

Law enforcement partners from across the region—including the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Chandler Police, Gilbert Police, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, Mesa Police, Salt River Police, and Tempe Police—will join forces in the DUI Task Force operations throughout the weekend.

“DUIs are 100 percent preventable,” said a Scottsdale Police spokesperson. “If you plan to drink or use recreational marijuana, plan ahead. Designate a sober driver, use a ride-share, or call a taxi. It could save a life.”

The campaign’s message is clear: impaired driving is a choice with potentially tragic consequences. By increasing visibility and enforcement, the Task Force hopes to deter risky behavior and encourage responsible decision-making.

Whether you're heading to a backyard barbecue or floating down the Salt River, officials urge all residents and visitors to prioritize safety and make smart transportation choices.

Drive sober. Stay safe. Celebrate responsibly.

💡 Quick Tips:

  • Designate a sober driver
  • Use a ride-share or taxi
  • Avoid driving if you’ve been drinking or using recreational marijuana
