Apache Junction, AZ — #ThrowbackThursday In 2003, to mark the City of Apache Junction’s 25th anniversary, School Resource Officer Thom Parker turned a vision of remembrance into a moving monument—literally.

With determination and community support, SRO Parker raised $30,000 to transform a 1998 Ford Crown Victoria into a one-of-a-kind tribute to heroism and service. The result was more than a patrol car—it was a rolling symbol of respect, pride, and unity.

Painted with a striking Vietnam memorial across the trunk and outfitted with a $4,000 sound system, the vehicle became a centerpiece at school assemblies, parades, and civic ceremonies throughout the early 2000s. Patriotic music and audio excerpts echoed from its speakers, stirring emotion and reflection wherever it appeared.

“It wasn’t just a car—it was a conversation starter, a teaching tool, and a heartfelt salute to those who gave everything,” said one longtime AJPD supporter.

The project, spearheaded by Officer Parker, brought together students, families, and veterans in a shared effort to honor those who served. It stood as a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives and the deep respect Apache Junction holds for its heroes.

Even today, the legacy of the Crown Vic lives on in local memory—a reminder that service, sacrifice, and pride in one’s city can be celebrated in bold, beautiful ways.
