Maricopa County, Ariz. – A suspect attempting to smuggle drugs into the Maricopa County jail system has been arrested, thanks to the combined efforts of detention staff and the Maricopa County Drug Suppression Task Force, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Jerry Sheridan emphasized that keeping drugs out of the jail system remains one of his top priorities.
“From Day 1 of my administration, I have made it a priority to protect the lives of staff and inmates throughout our jail system,” said Sheriff Sheridan. “I will continue to do everything in my power to ensure drugs are not flowing into our jails, and those that attempt to bring them in will face swift and severe consequences.”
During the investigation, detention officers and task force members conducted searches, utilized K-9 units, and collected evidence inside the facility. Items seized included suspected narcotics and other contraband that had been brought into the jail.
The Sheriff’s Office reports that the suspect now faces multiple charges related to drug trafficking and smuggling contraband into a correctional facility.
The ongoing work of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Drug Suppression Task Force highlights their continued efforts to disrupt the flow of dangerous substances into detention centers and maintain safety for both staff and inmates.
