Tempe Construction Zone Crash Sends Five to Hospital

TEMPE, AZ — A construction zone on US-60 near Mill Road turned dangerous yesterday morning when a fatigued driver in a pickup truck collided with an attenuator truck, then struck a box truck, sending five people to the hospital.

🚨 Driver Fatigue + No Seatbelts = Serious Injuries

Investigators say the attenuator truck was active in the HOV lane with lights flashing, collecting barricades when the pickup driver admitted to driving while tired. The crash ejected both the pickup driver and a box truck passenger—neither were wearing seatbelts.

👮 State Troopers Responded Immediately

Highway Patrol Troopers arrived on scene and emphasized the preventable nature of the crash. All five individuals were hospitalized with various injuries, but no fatalities were reported.

⚠️ Safety Reminders from AZDPS:

  • Drowsy driving is impaired driving—pull over and rest
  • Seatbelts save lives—every ride, every time
  • Slow down in work zones—protect yourself and construction crews
