Belleview Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Aggravated Stalking After Over 160 Phone Calls to Victim

Marion County, FL — A Belleview man with a lengthy criminal record has been sentenced to a decade behind bars after being found guilty of aggravated stalking and other charges stemming from the repeated harassment of a domestic violence victim.

Following a jury trial on Wednesday, 37-year-old Brian Joseph Jankowski was convicted of Aggravated Stalking, Violation of a Domestic Violence Injunction with Two Prior Convictions, and Resisting Law Enforcement without Violence.

Judge Peter M. Brigham reviewed Jankowski’s criminal history, which spans more than 20 years, before sentencing him to 10 years in the Florida Department of Corrections.

The charges originate from an incident on June 21, 2024, when deputies from the Marion County Sheriff's Officeresponded to a domestic violence injunction violation. The victim told authorities that Jankowski had been harassing them by repeatedly calling and leaving voicemails—despite an active protection order barring any contact.

Evidence presented at trial showed that Jankowski called the victim over 160 times, often from a blocked number. Voicemails included emotional pleas for the victim to answer the phone, alongside harassing messages. The victim also reported that Jankowski had shown up at their home on multiple occasions.

Deputies tracked Jankowski to his residence and attempted to make contact, but he fled out the back door in an attempt to escape. He was apprehended shortly afterward. During a post-Miranda interview, Jankowski admitted to being aware of the injunction and acknowledged contacting the victim.

The case was successfully prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Lillian Rozsa and Certified Legal Intern Sandra Edwards.
