CLERMONT, FL (May 29, 2025) – After a period of leading the department in an interim capacity, John Graczyk was officially named Clermont's Police Chief on Thursday. Graczyk, a veteran of the Clermont Police Department, brings a wealth of experience to his new permanent role.

“Chief Graczyk is a dedicated officer who has repeatedly demonstrated his ability to lead the Clermont Police Department,” stated Interim City Manager Rick Van Wagner. “Our City Council, our staff, and our community have made it very clear who they believe should be Clermont’s next Police Chief. It was an easy decision and we are pleased to have him.”

A former United States Marine who served in Iraqi Freedom, Chief Graczyk’s career with the Clermont Police Department began in 2005 as a patrol officer. He steadily advanced through the ranks, serving as a Sergeant in both the Patrol Division and the Crime Suppression Unit, and later as Captain of the Uniform Service Division. In January 2022, he was promoted to Deputy Chief. He stepped into the role of Interim Chief in April following the departure of former Chief Charles Broadway, who accepted a position at another agency.

Chief Graczyk’s extensive experience covers all facets of police work, including administrative and operational leadership. His commitment to professional development is highlighted by his recent graduation from the prestigious FBI National Academy. He is also an alumnus of the Southern Police Institute's 80th Command Officer Development Program, the Florida Leadership Academy, and the FBI LEEDA Executive Seminar. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and is an active member of both the Florida Police Chiefs Association and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

Expressing his gratitude, Chief Graczyk said, “Clermont is my home and I am honored to be given this opportunity to lead this outstanding staff of sworn officers, civilian staff and volunteers.” He continued, “I am grateful for the overwhelming support of this community, our City Council, Interim City Manager and staff, my family and the entire department. I am excited and eager to continue to find new and better ways to protect and serve our community.”

Outside of his law enforcement duties, Chief Graczyk is described as an avid soccer fan and a decent basketball player. He resides in Clermont with his wife and three children.
