KISSIMMEE, FL — Protecting your home from flooding just got a little easier for Kissimmee residents, and for some homeowners, it could also mean saving money.
The City of Kissimmee announced Tuesday that residents and property owners can now get flood insurance quotes and purchase coverage online through a new self-service tool launched by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
The tool, available at FloodSmart.gov, allows property owners to explore coverage options through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) without having to begin the process with an insurance agent.
Residents who prefer working with an agent can still do so.
Getting Flood Insurance Is Now Easier
For homeowners who have been putting off purchasing flood insurance, the new online option offers a more convenient way to get started.
By visiting FloodSmart.gov/policy-quote, residents can enter basic information about their property, review available coverage options, and receive a personalized quote.
From there, they can choose to purchase coverage online or share their quote with an insurance agent for additional assistance.
The program is available to eligible property owners in communities participating in the NFIP, including Kissimmee.
Kissimmee Homeowners Could Save 25%
The new online purchasing option comes with additional good news for eligible Kissimmee property owners.
In July 2026, the City of Kissimmee improved its classification under FEMA's Community Rating System (CRS), moving from Class 7 to Class 5.
That change increased the flood insurance discount available on most eligible NFIP policies from 15% to 25%.
The new discount applies to qualifying policies issued or renewed on or after October 1, 2026.
According to city officials, the improved rating recognizes Kissimmee's continued efforts to reduce flooding risks, strengthen floodplain management, and better prepare the community for severe weather.
Those efforts go beyond the minimum federal requirements and help eligible property owners save on flood insurance premiums.
Why Flood Insurance Matters in Central Florida
Flooding remains a concern for communities throughout Central Florida, particularly during hurricane season and periods of heavy rainfall.
Flood damage can happen even in neighborhoods that are not considered high-risk flood zones.
The National Flood Insurance Program helps homeowners, renters, and businesses protect themselves financially against covered flood damage.
Residents considering coverage should also keep in mind that most new NFIP policies have a 30-day waiting period before taking effect, although certain exceptions apply.
That means waiting until a major storm is approaching could leave a property without coverage when it is needed most.
