ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida Highway Patrol trooper shot a suspect Friday night after authorities say the man fled from a hit-and-run crash and continued resisting arrest.

The incident happened around 9:24 p.m. on October 2, 2026, along Lakeville Road in Orange County.

According to FHP, the trooper initially responded to a reported hit-and-run crash. The suspect had already left the scene on foot.

The trooper later encountered the suspect nearby. FHP said the suspect refused to comply and continued resisting as the trooper attempted to take him into custody.

Authorities said the trooper deployed a Taser several times, but the suspect continued to resist.

At some point during the encounter, the trooper fired his gun, striking the suspect.

The suspect was eventually taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for treatment. FHP did not release an update on his condition.

The trooper was not injured.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is now investigating the shooting, which is standard procedure following an officer-involved use of force.

FHP said it does not expect to release additional information while that investigation is underway.
