Mesa Police Officer-Involved Shooting During Arrest of Domestic Violence Suspect in Chandler

CHANDLER, Ariz. — A Mesa Police investigation into a domestic violence case led to an officer-involved shooting Tuesday afternoon at a residence in Chandler.
According to information provided directly to iSkyNews.com by the Mesa Police Department, detectives responded to a home near Frye Road and Kingston Street shortly before 3:45 p.m. on September 1st.
Police said detectives had established probable cause to arrest an adult male suspect in connection with a domestic violence incident that occurred earlier in the week in Mesa. Investigators received information confirming the suspect was at the Chandler residence.
Detectives began communicating with the suspect inside the home and instructed him to surrender. During those conversations, police said the suspect told detectives he was armed with a rifle.
The suspect was later observed at the rear of the residence holding a rifle. An officer-involved shooting occurred at that time, according to Mesa Police.
Police said the suspect refused commands to surrender and retreated back inside the residence, where he barricaded himself.
Officers used several less-lethal options in an effort to safely take the suspect into custody. The man was eventually arrested and transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities have not released the suspect’s name or additional information regarding his condition.
The circumstances surrounding the officer-involved shooting remain under investigation.
