Mesa Officer Fatally Shoots Armed Suspect After Threats Report
MESA, AZ — A Mesa Police officer fatally shot an armed man Monday night after officers responded to reports that he had been threatening people and displaying a firearm, according to information provided directly to iSkyNews.com by the Mesa Police Department.
Police said officers were called to the area of Jensen and Spring around 8:20 p.m. on August 31st after receiving a report of a man threatening others with a firearm visible in his waistband.
According to Mesa Police, officers had responded to previous calls involving the same man, including similar reports of threats involving a weapon.
When officers arrived, they attempted to contact the man, but police said he refused to come outside and speak with them.

While officers continued investigating, a separate traffic collision happened on Mesa Drive behind the residence involving an uninvolved motorist and a police vehicle that was already at the scene for the original call.
Officers remained in the area and monitored the residence while additional officers investigated the crash.
Police said officers later saw the man in a backyard, over a block wall, holding a firearm.
An officer then fired their duty weapon.
A team of officers, including a police K9, approached the man and detained him. Police said the adult male was found dead.
The man’s identity has not yet been released.
Mesa Police have not released additional information about what occurred immediately before the officer fired, including whether the man pointed or fired the weapon.
The officer-involved shooting remains under investigation.
