Flatbed Tractor-Trailer Carrying Aluminum Panels Crashes on Wet I-75 in Sumter County

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — A flatbed tractor-trailer hauling aluminum panels crashed along Interstate 75 Friday morning after the driver lost control on a rain-soaked highway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 9:30 a.m. on July 16 near the 293-mile marker on southbound I-75.

FHP says a 42-year-old man from Lady Lake was driving the tractor-trailer southbound when he lost control while traveling across the wet roadway. The truck jackknifed onto the outside shoulder before striking a light pole and coming to rest in a nearby ditch.

Despite the dramatic crash, the driver was not injured, according to investigators.

Images from the scene show the heavily damaged tractor overturned in the ditch while the flatbed trailer remained near the shoulder. Emergency crews responded to the scene as traffic continued to move through the area.

The Florida Highway Patrol is reminding motorists to slow down and use extra caution when driving in wet weather, as rain can quickly reduce traction and increase the risk of losing control.
