HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Two people were killed Saturday afternoon after a head-on collision involving three vehicles along State Road 39 in Hillsborough County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 12:25 p.m. on June 27, 2026, south of East County Line Road.
According to FHP, a Subaru SUV traveling southbound on SR-39 attempted to pass another vehicle. During the maneuver, the SUV entered the northbound lane and collided head-on with an oncoming Chrysler minivan.
The force of the collision caused one or both of the vehicles to rotate, striking a Ford F-250 towing a horse trailer that was traveling behind the Subaru before the vehicles left the roadway and came to rest.
The driver of the Subaru, an unidentified adult man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chrysler minivan, also an unidentified adult man, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The driver of the Ford F-250, a 64-year-old Webster man, suffered minor injuries but was not transported to a hospital.
The condition of the horse or horses inside the trailer was not immediately released by investigators.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the fatal crash. The identities of the deceased have not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
