ORLANDO, Fla. (iSkyNews.com) — Good morning, Florida! If you've been hoping for a break from the daily downpours, today may offer just that. Rain and thunderstorm chances will be lower across much of Central Florida on Monday, but the tradeoff will be hotter temperatures and steamy humidity.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, scattered showers and thunderstorms are still expected to develop later this afternoon, primarily across inland communities where the Atlantic and Gulf sea breezes collide. Rain chances generally range from 20% to 30%, with the highest potential for storms focused away from the immediate coast.

While widespread severe weather is not anticipated, any storm that develops could produce frequent lightning, brief heavy rainfall, and gusty winds up to 40 to 50 mph. Localized rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches may lead to minor street flooding in isolated areas.

The bigger story for many Floridians will be the heat.

Afternoon highs are expected to climb into the low to mid-90s, several degrees above normal for late June. Combined with the humidity, heat index values could reach 102 to 107 degrees, making it feel significantly hotter than the thermometer reads.

Forecast highs include:

  • Orlando: 96°
  • Leesburg: 95°
  • Daytona Beach: 94°
  • Melbourne: 93°
  • Port St. Lucie: 93°
  • Vero Beach: 92°

Any storms that form inland may slowly drift back toward portions of the coast during the early evening hours before dissipating after sunset.

Looking ahead, the hot and humid pattern is expected to continue through much of the upcoming week, with typical summertime afternoon storm chances returning each day.

Residents planning outdoor activities should stay hydrated, take frequent breaks in the shade, and keep an eye on the sky for developing storms later today.
