KISSIMMEE, Fla. — A suspicious device prompted a large emergency response and major road closures in Kissimmee Thursday morning before authorities determined the item was not an explosive.
According to the Kissimmee Police Department, officers responded to the call at approximately 11:03 a.m. after locating a device that appeared suspicious in nature.
Out of an abundance of caution, officers closed roadways in the area of Columbia Avenue, just north of U.S. 192, while traffic was rerouted to protect motorists and nearby residents.

iSkyNews.com reporters were on scene and observed all lanes of Columbia Avenue and John Young Parkway closed in both directions, along with a large police presence as officers secured the area and bomb technicians responded.
The Orlando Police Bomb Squad responded to evaluate the item and ultimately determined it was not an explosive device.
While the immediate threat has been eliminated, officials say the exact nature of the device remains under investigation, and no additional details have been released.
The scene has since been cleared, all roadways have reopened, and normal traffic has resumed.
"We located a device that appeared suspicious in nature," Kissimmee Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Raquel Fernandez said in a statement to iSkyNews.com. "The Orlando Bomb Squad responded to assess the device and determined it was not an explosive device. At this time, the exact nature of the device remains under investigation."
Authorities thanked the public for its patience while officers worked to ensure the safety of the community.
