Mesa Woman Accused of Violating Protection Order, Fleeing Police With Victim’s Dog Before Crashing

MESA, Ariz. — A Mesa woman is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after police say she repeatedly violated an Order of Protection, drove past the protected residence while officers were on scene, fled from police and ultimately crashed into a city sign.

According to information provided directly to iSkyNews.com by the Mesa Police Department, officers responded to the area of 54th Street and Arcadia Avenue shortly before 9 p.m. on Monday, August 24, following a report of an Order of Protection violation.

Police said officers confirmed the protection order was valid, had been served on the suspect earlier that same day and prohibited her from being near the victim's residence.

The victim told officers the suspect had been at his home, was intoxicated and had left the area in a white vehicle with his dog inside.

Suspect Drives Past Officers

The situation escalated while an officer was speaking with the victim.

According to Mesa Police, the suspect drove past the victim's residence while officers were there investigating the alleged violation.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver allegedly refused to stop.

Investigators said the suspect then drove past the victim's residence a second time while officers were still present, again allegedly violating the protection order.

The incident came to an end after the vehicle struck a city sign and stopped.

Police said the driver got out of the vehicle holding a can of beer and was taken into custody.

Officers also located the victim's dog inside the vehicle. The dog was safely returned to the victim.

Suspect Identified as Regina Baswell

Police identified the suspect as 50-year-old Regina Lee Baswell.

Baswell was arrested at approximately 9:26 p.m. on August 24, according to booking information, and was subsequently booked into the Estrella jail facility.

Mesa Police said Baswell was booked on allegations including:

• Unlawful Flight from a Law Enforcement Vehicle, a Class 5 felony

• Criminal Damage greater than $1,000, a Class 6 felony

• Interfering with Judicial Proceedings / Domestic Violence, a Class 1 misdemeanor, three counts

• Reckless Driving

• Driving on a Suspended or Revoked License

• Exceeding the Posted Speed Limit by More Than 20 MPH

Court records associated with the booking list the case as PF2026133004001.

Booking information lists Baswell's bond at $5,000 and shows the charges as being bound over to Superior Court.

Her next listed court appearance is scheduled for August 31 at 8:31 a.m.

The allegations against Baswell are accusations. She is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
