PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — A tragic crash that left a young child fighting for his life has now turned fatal.
According to an update released by the Florida Highway Patrol, the 7-year-old boy from Lutz who was seriously injured in a traffic crash on May 28 has died from his injuries. Troopers said the child passed away on May 30 after being transported to an area hospital following the collision. The crash remains under investigation.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:15 p.m. on May 28 in the 17800 block of Cloudless Bliss Drive, east of Skybrooke Boulevard in Pasco County.
Investigators say a 45-year-old man from Riverview was driving a Tesla Model 3 westbound on Cloudless Bliss Drive when he struck the child, who was operating a Razor Crazy Cart Shuffle seated scooter in the roadway. Troopers reported that the Tesla was not operating in Autopilot mode at the time of the crash.
Emergency responders rushed the young boy to a local hospital with serious injuries. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to those injuries two days later.
The heartbreaking loss has left a family mourning the death of a child whose life was cut far too short. The incident also serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of vigilance on residential roadways, where children are often present.
Florida Highway Patrol has not announced whether any charges are pending as investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
