HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. — A deadly head-on collision on US-19 Friday afternoon left one man dead and two others seriously injured, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 1:00 p.m. on June 5, south of West Merrivale Lane in Hernando County.
Investigators say a Chevy Silverado driven by a 30-year-old New Port Richey man was traveling southbound on US-19 when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The Silverado entered the outside shoulder before the driver reportedly overcorrected.
Troopers say the pickup then crossed all southbound travel lanes, traversed the center median, and entered the northbound lanes directly into the path of a GMC Savana truck.
The two vehicles collided nearly head-on.
The driver of the GMC, a 50-year-old Homosassa man, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Silverado sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. A passenger in the GMC, a 59-year-old Homosassa woman, also suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances that led to the crash.
No additional information has been released at this time.
