Sarasota Woman Sentenced to Federal Prison for TikTok Death Threats Against MAGA Supporters
TAMPA, FL — A Sarasota woman has been sentenced to 14 months in federal prison after a jury found her guilty of using social media to broadcast violent threats against individuals wearing "Make America Great Again" (MAGA) hats.
Desiree Doreen Segari, 41, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Katheryn Kimball Mizelle following her conviction on charges of interstate communication of a threat to injure. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe.
"Pew Pew": The Evidence of Violence
During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence from August 17, 2025, when Segari posted a video to TikTok calling for MAGA supporters to be "shot on sight". In the footage, Segari encouraged viewers to use their Second Amendment rights to target individuals wearing the political attire.
According to court records, Segari stated:
"So if we all get our guns and use our second amendment right… and you see somebody with a MAGA hat, ‘pew pew’ that’s what we do, that’s the way, it’s the only way".
While speaking, Segari utilized hand gestures mimicking the firing of a weapon. She further stated that "MAGA people deserve to be terrified" and claimed that "real Americans" would kill them.
Attempting to Start a "Trend"
Segari didn't just post a single video; she actively attempted to turn the violent rhetoric into a viral movement. She captioned her video with the hashtag #seemagapewpewmaga, urging her followers to spread the word and use the tag across the internet.
The following day, Segari posted a second video repeating the "See MAGA pew pew MAGA" chant while again mimicking gunfire, stating she wanted people to know she "ain't here to play".
The case was the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Segari was originally indicted in September 2025 and was found guilty by a federal jury on January 13, 2026.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Michael Sinacore.
