A deadly early morning crash has shut down part of State Road 528 in Orange County as Florida Highway Patrol troopers continue investigating what caused the violent wreck.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), troopers responded to the fatal crash at approximately 4:37 a.m. Monday on westbound State Road 528 near Universal Boulevard (mile marker 2) in Orlando.

Preliminary evidence indicates a 2024 Honda Civic was traveling westbound when, for reasons still unknown, the vehicle veered off the right side of the roadway.

Investigators say the Honda struck a light pole and multiple trees before overturning.

The driver, whose identity is still pending confirmation, was transported to Dr. Phillips Hospital, where they were later pronounced deceased.

A passenger, identified as a 20-year-old man from Pennsylvania, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC) with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

FHP says westbound lanes of SR-528 were temporarily blocked as troopers worked the scene and gathered evidence.

The crash remains under active investigation, and additional details are expected in a formal media release once confirmed.

Motorists in the area were urged to seek alternate routes during the roadway closure.
