LAKE COUNTY, FL  A Saturday afternoon ride turned tragic in Lake County after a high-speed motorcycle crash claimed the life of a 23-year-old man.

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) responded to the scene at State Road 44 and Brantley Branch Road at approximately 4:38 PM following reports of a head-on collision involving a motorcycle and a sedan.

According to investigators, a 23-year-old Eustis man was traveling eastbound on a 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle. FHP reports indicate the rider was traveling above the posted speed limit when he lost control of the bike.

The motorcycle swerved left, crossing into the westbound lanes and into the direct path of a 2008 Toyota Tundra. The front of the Harley Davidson collided head-on with the front of the Toyota.

Scene Response and Casualties

Despite the arrival of emergency crews, the motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene. Troopers noted in the report that the rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The occupants of the Toyota Tundra—a 61-year-old male driver from Maitland, a 64-year-old male passenger from Winter Park, and a 59-year-old female passenger from Maitland—were all wearing seatbelts and reported no injuries. They remained on-site to cooperate with the investigation.

Ongoing Investigation

The crash is being handled by Trooper Worfel and Corporal Jonas of FHP Troop D. While the initial narrative cites speed and loss of control as primary factors, the case remains an active homicide investigation.

Next of kin for the deceased has been notified.
