Woman Shot by Officer Inside Scottsdale Police Station After Pointing Gun at Others
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — An adult woman is in critical condition after being shot by a police officer Thursday morning inside a Scottsdale police station, following a tense and rapidly unfolding situation involving a firearm.
According to the Scottsdale Police Department, the incident happened around 9:45 a.m. at the McKellips Police Station, located at 7601 E. McKellips Road in Scottsdale.

- Where: McKellips Police Station, Scottsdale
- When: April 30, 2026, around 9:45 a.m.
- Who: Adult female suspect shot by officer
- Injuries: Suspect critically injured; no others hurt
Police say the woman entered the station’s front lobby and pointed a gun at a police aide, prompting an immediate alert to other employees about an armed individual inside the building.
Moments later, as officers rushed to respond, the woman allegedly pointed the firearm at another citizen who was in the lobby conducting regular police business.
Officers entering the lobby gave loud and direct commands for the suspect to drop the weapon. Instead, investigators say the woman raised the gun toward responding officers, escalating the situation.
Faced with what police described as an immediate threat to both officers and a civilian, one officer fired their weapon, striking the woman.
Authorities say the entire incident — from the moment the gun was first displayed to the officer-involved shooting — lasted approximately one minute.
After the woman was shot and dropped the handgun, officers quickly moved in to secure her and provide first aid until paramedics arrived. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she remains in critical condition under protective custody.
Despite the chaotic scene inside the station, no citizens or police employees were injured, according to officials.
Detectives with the Scottsdale Police Department are working to determine what led the woman to enter the station armed and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
As is standard protocol under the East Valley Critical Incident Response Team (EVCIRT), the Mesa Police Departmentwill lead the independent investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
Additionally, Scottsdale Police Internal Affairs will review the use of force to ensure it aligns with department policies.
The employees involved have been placed on temporary Post-Critical Incident Leave and are being offered peer support resources.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the woman or further details about a possible motive.
