RUSKIN, Fla. — A two-vehicle crash along U.S. Highway 41 late Sunday morning left one man dead and two others injured, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 11:15 a.m. on April 12, 2026, just south of 4th Street South in the Ruskin area.
According to investigators, Vehicle 1, a Kia Soul driven by an 89-year-old man from Apollo Beach, was exiting a gas station on the east side of U.S. 41. Troopers say the driver attempted to make a left turn onto the highway, directly into the path of Vehicle 2, a Hyundai Tucson traveling northbound.
The Hyundai, driven by a 78-year-old man from Ruskin, struck the Kia, causing a violent impact.
Authorities say the force of the collision caused the Kia Soul to overturn, while the Hyundai Tucson rotated and came to rest in the median.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and transported all three individuals involved to a nearby hospital. This included both drivers and a 72-year-old female passenger from Ruskin who was riding in the Hyundai.
Troopers later confirmed that the 89-year-old driver of the Kia Soul died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The conditions of the other two victims have not been released at this time.
The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
