⚠️ Water Safety Reminder for Families
As temperatures begin to rise across Central Florida, more families are spending time around pools, lakes, and other water. Safety officials remind parents that drowning can happen quickly and quietly, especially with young children.
Here are several important water safety tips:
➡️ Never leave children unattended around water, even for a moment.
➡️ Designate a “water watcher” whose only job is to watch the children in the pool.
➡️ Install proper pool barriers, including fences with self-closing and self-latching gates.
➡️ Use door alarms or pool alarms to alert you if a child enters the water area.
➡️ Teach children basic water safety and swimming skills early.
➡️ Keep rescue equipment nearby, such as life rings or reaching poles.
➡️ Learn CPR, which can be lifesaving while waiting for first responders.
Safety advocates stress that constant supervision is the most important factor in preventing child drownings.
