2:50 PM UPDATE - U.S. 27 has been shutdown in both directions due to fears of the power pole falling down and blocking both directions of the road. NB from Main Street has been shut down as well as SB from Glen Este Blvd.

HAINES CITY, Fla. — Emergency crews are responding to an explosion involving a power pole that is now on fire along U.S. Highway 27 in Haines City Sunday afternoon.

According to dispatch information received by iSkyNews.com at approximately 2:13 p.m., the incident occurred near 35988 U.S. Highway 27, in the area of the Popeyes restaurant.

Officials say a power pole exploded and caught fire, prompting a response from Haines City Fire Department and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities have shut down multiple sections of U.S. 27 in the area while crews work to secure the scene and address the active fire and potential electrical hazards.

Motorists are being urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes, as traffic disruptions are expected while emergency crews manage the situation.

At this time, no injuries have been reported.

The cause of the explosion has not yet been confirmed.
