FHP and Local Agencies Crack Down on Spring Break Crime Across Florida
FLORIDA — The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), alongside local law enforcement partners, ramped up enforcement efforts across major spring break destinations this March, focusing on public safety, DUI enforcement, and crowd control in some of the state’s busiest beach communities.
Troopers worked closely with agencies in Miami Beach and Panama City Beach, assisting with traffic enforcement and targeting impaired driving as thousands of visitors flooded Florida’s coastline.

Strong Law Enforcement Presence Across Key Locations
According to FHP, the coordinated effort was designed to reduce dangerous behavior and maintain order during one of the busiest times of the year.
“This year’s spring break operations showcased the strength of our partnership with local law enforcement as we worked together to curb dangerous driving, prevent impaired driving, and support crowd-management efforts,” said Executive Director Dave Kerner. “Our combined efforts reinforced Florida’s commitment to protecting both residents and visitors.”
Local leaders echoed that message, emphasizing a zero-tolerance stance on crime and disorder.

By the Numbers: Enforcement Results
During March, FHP significantly increased enforcement statewide, resulting in over 2,500 DUI-related citations.
Panama City Beach:
- 40 troopers deployed
- Nearly 2,000 moving citations issued
- Over 1,300 warnings given
- 7 DUI arrests
Miami Beach:
- 20 troopers deployed
- More than 150 moving citations
- Over 200 warnings

Officials in Miami Beach reported a more than 20% reduction in arrests compared to last year, crediting the coordinated law enforcement strategy.
Officials: Unified Approach Is Making a Difference
Law enforcement leaders across the state say the partnership between agencies played a key role in maintaining safety.
Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford stated that agencies are sending a clear message that crime and disorder will not be tolerated. Panama City Beach Police Chief J.R. Talamantez and Panama City Police Chief Mark Smith both highlighted the importance of cooperation in keeping roadways and public areas safe.
Miami Beach Police Chief Wayne A. Jones noted the results reflect a disciplined and coordinated strategy, adding that the city will continue taking strong action to protect both residents and visitors.
Spring Break Enforcement Still Ongoing
Officials say enforcement efforts are still active in Panama City Beach, with troopers and local agencies continuing to monitor traffic, enforce DUI laws, and maintain order as spring break crowds remain in the area.
Authorities are reminding visitors to enjoy Florida responsibly, warning that impaired driving and reckless behavior will continue to be strictly enforced.
