Arizona Officers Step In to Help Elderly Woman with Backyard Overtaken by Weeds

CHANDLER, AZ — What began as a routine call for service turned into a heartfelt moment of community support when Chandler police officers noticed an elderly resident struggling to keep up with yard work at her home.

According to the Chandler Police Department, officers responding to the call observed that weeds had taken over the resident’s backyard. Some of the weeds had grown nearly as tall as the block fence surrounding the property.

After speaking with the homeowner, officers learned she was unable to manage the yard maintenance on her own.

Instead of simply moving on after the call, several officers decided to come back later during their shift with yard tools in hand. They spent time pulling weeds and clearing the overgrown area to help restore the yard.

“People need help, specifically her, she needed help,” said Officer Marysol Green of the Chandler Police Department. “She can’t come out here and pull these weeds. So swing shift hit the road early and we came out here and started pulling weeds.”

The resident told officers she was grateful for the assistance and surprised to see so many officers come together to help.

Moments like this reflect the Chandler Police Department’s broader mission to maintain a safe and vibrant community through meaningful engagement and service.
