25-Year-Old Tampa Man Killed in Early Morning Crash on I-75 in Hillsborough County
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A 25-year-old Tampa man was killed early Tuesday morning following a violent crash involving multiple vehicles on Interstate 75, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The crash occurred around 6:00 a.m. on March 3, 2026, along the northbound lanes of I-75 in Hillsborough County.
Troopers say a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck, driven by the Tampa man, was traveling northbound in the outside lane of the interstate. Ahead of the pickup was a Chevy box truck, driven by a 35-year-old man from Valrico, also traveling northbound.
According to investigators, the pickup truck overtook the box truck and crashed into the rear of it. The impact forced the box truck to the shoulder of the highway, where it came to a stop.
The collision caused the Dodge pickup to overturn multiple times, ejecting the driver from the vehicle during the crash sequence.
Troopers say the driver was thrown into the center lanes of the interstate, where he was subsequently struck by a passing tractor-trailer driven by a 50-year-old man from Riverview who was also traveling northbound.
The Tampa man suffered fatal injuries at the scene, according to FHP.
The drivers of the box truck and the tractor-trailer were not reported to have sustained serious injuries.
Debris from the crash scattered across multiple lanes of the interstate, and Florida Highway Patrol troopers temporarily shut down portions of the roadway while investigators processed the scene and cleared wreckage.
The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
