TEMPE, Ariz. — A man is dead and two others were injured following a shooting at a Tempe apartment complex, according to the Tempe Police Department.
Officers responded to 1234 East Lemon Street after receiving reports of a shooting that had just occurred. During the investigation, police say 33-year-old Adrian Alfredo Ruiz allegedly entered an apartment through a broken window.
Authorities say Ruiz was confronted inside by 22-year-old Schon Nicholas Rohde, and the two exchanged gunfire. Ruiz sustained fatal injuries during the confrontation.
Police reported that Rohde and a second man, 21-year-old Gavin Scott Van Tassel, both suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. They were treated for their injuries, and their conditions have not been described as critical.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led up to the shooting, including how Ruiz gained entry into the apartment and the events that preceded the exchange of gunfire.
The Tempe Police Department says the investigation remains ongoing, and no additional details have been released at this time.
