CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. — A 44-year-old Crystal River woman has died following a near head-on crash Friday afternoon on U.S. 41, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred on February 27, 2026, at approximately 2:13 p.m., south of Andrew Street.
According to FHP, a Ford E350 van driven by a 28-year-old man from Brooksville was traveling northbound on U.S. 41 when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The van traveled onto the east shoulder before the driver overcorrected, causing the vehicle to cross into the southbound lane.
The van then collided nearly head-on with a Toyota RAV4 driven by the Crystal River woman, who was traveling southbound at the time.
The woman was transported to an area hospital but later succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash, troopers said.
The driver of the van suffered minor injuries and was also transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Two adult male passengers from Inverness who were riding in the van were not injured in the collision.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash, including what may have caused the driver to lose control of the van. Additional details, including whether charges will be filed, have not yet been released.
