Mesa Police Renew Call for Help in 2022 Cold Case Homicide Near Alma School Road

MESA, AZ — Mesa police are once again asking for the public’s help as they continue to reinvestigate an unsolved homicide that occurred more than three years ago.

According to the Mesa Police Department, officers were called to the 825 S. Alma School Road area at 3:21 a.m. on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, after receiving a report of an unresponsive man found in a grassy area.

When officers arrived, they located the victim, who was suffering from injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigators later determined the man did not survive injuries he had sustained during the incident.

During the investigation, detectives learned that some of the victim’s personal property was missing. One item of particular interest is a Sprayground Angry Bear backpack, which police believe may be connected to the case.

The homicide remains unsolved and has since been classified as a cold case. Mesa police say they are actively reinvestigating unsolved homicides in an effort to generate new leads and bring justice to victims and their families.

Police are urging anyone who may have information about the homicide, the missing backpack, or suspicious activity in the area around that time to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact:

  • Mesa Police Department Homicide Unit: 480-644-2012
  • Submit a Tip through Mesa Police
  • Silent Witness: 480-WITNESS (480-948-6377) or 1-800-343-TIPS

Tips to Silent Witness may be made anonymously, and callers may be eligible for a cash reward.

iSkyNews.com will continue to share cold case information as Mesa police work to bring answers to families still waiting for justice.
