Downed Power Line Forces Full Closure of McKellips Road in Mesa

MESA, Ariz. — A hazardous downed power line forced the closure of a major roadway in Mesa on Wednesday afternoon, prompting an emergency response from fire crews, police, and utility companies.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., Mesa Fire Engine 208 responded to reports of a power line down on McKellips Road just west of 32nd Street. Fire crews arriving on scene found the line hanging less than six feet above the ground, creating a serious danger to motorists and pedestrians traveling through the area.

Mesa Police immediately shut down traffic in both directions, closing eastbound McKellips Road at Lindsay Road and westbound McKellips Road at 32nd Street. As of 3:00 p.m., all eastbound and westbound lanes remain closed while crews work to secure the scene.

Several businesses in the surrounding area are currently without power. Utility providers SRP, Cox, and CenturyLink responded to assist with repairs and coordination. According to a Mesa Police officer on scene, SRP advised that the roadway could remain closed for several hours as crews work to safely restore power and remove the hazard.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes until the roadway reopens.
