Fire Engine Involved in Serious Crash in Winter Haven; SUV Driver Critically Injured
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — A Winter Haven Fire Department engine was involved in a serious motor vehicle crash late Friday night while returning from a call, officials said.
According to the Winter Haven Fire Department, the incident occurred at approximately 10:24 p.m. on December 13, 2025, at the intersection of Dundee Road and Overlook Drive. Engine 4 was attempting to make a left turn from Overlook Drive onto Dundee Road with a green traffic signal when it was struck in the intersection by an SUV, causing significant damage to both vehicles.

The fire engine was staffed by a crew of three firefighters, all of whom were uninjured in the crash.
Immediately after the collision, the firefighters exited the apparatus and began providing emergency medical care to the SUV’s driver, who had sustained critical injuries and was trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters performed extrication operations to safely remove the driver. Due to the severity of the injuries, the patient was transported by medical helicopter to a local trauma center as a trauma alert.
Fire department officials expressed gratitude that no firefighters were hurt and commended the Engine 4 crew for their quick actions, professionalism, and dedication to patient care under extremely challenging conditions.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash. No additional information has been released at this time.
